This weekend saw the teams in action during the semifinals of the League post season play. In the U 19 Girls division on Saturday:
Western Warriors needed double over time and penalty kicks to defeat the Renegades WFC in an exciting match filled with thrills and spills. In the end the Warriors missed fewer penalty kicks to advance to the finals and relegated the Renegades WFC to the third place match.
In the late game, the Cavaliers WFC, after a string of losses, came into this game with a renewed spirit and took the game to the Dynamos WFC. The Dynamos ladies weathered the initial push and took control of the match on a beautiful break away goal by forward Mia Williams. After the air was let out of the sails, thes went on to defeat Cavaliers 4-0, behind a brace each from Captain Tyra McKenzie and strike partner Mia Williams.
This sets up a grand finale for a championship between the Western Warriors WFC and the Dynamos WFC team.
In Senior Men's Action on Sunday afternoon,
The Dynamos FC behind a lone goal from forward Dwayne Whylly Jr, held on in a nail biter to defeat old rivals Bears FC 1-0. Whylly was not around at the end as he picked up two quick yellow cards after his goal, which ended his season as he will not be eligible for the finals. Coach Peterson while lamenting the dismissal of Whylly, his top scorer, he said someone will have the opportunity to set up and fill the void left by Whylly.
In the feature match up before a sizeable crowd, the Cavalier FC Men's team pulled the upset of the season as they knocked off the Western Warriors Titans 3-2. It was a classic case of David chopping down Goliath. Not sure if the Titans underestimatedthe Cavaliers but by half time and down 0-3, coach Paul James had to adjust and push his squad to get going. In the end, the Warriors rallied to pull a goal back but fell short in the end as Coach Arthur Seymour and his squad joyfully left the field with an invitation to the finals.
The finals will see the Dynamos Fc VS Cavaliers FC.
