The Referees Department held a Referees Course from 22-24 June at University of the Bahamas . The course was attended by Anton Sealey ( President of the Bahamas Football Association ) , Fredrick Lunn ( General Secretary of the BFA) , Stanley Darville ( Chairman of the Referees Committee) Dianne Ferreira-James ( Head of Refereeing BFA and Concacaf Elite Instructor and Assessor) Wilson Da Costa ( Director of the Academy and FIFA Referee) along with Local Instructors Joseph Edwards ( Futuro Fitness Instructor), Raymond Charles, and Richard Ojeabulu. There were 20 participants 6 of which were females.
The purpose of the course is to prepare referees for the FIFA MA Coyrse scheduled for 3-6 August in Nassau. The course focused on main topic areas such as :
1. Football Understanding
2. Challenges and Tackles
3. Denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity and stopping a promising attack
4. Delaying the restart of plays s Dissent
5. Simulation and Mass Confrontation
6. Law 11 -Offside
Participants were tested on Challeges, Handball, Offside and Fitness .
There were mixed results as participants ranged from beginners to tier one.
The Academy under the guidance of Wilson Dacosta has shown great improvement since its existence sone 3 years ago producing standout graduate Krystal Delancy -Evans who will be officiating in the Concacaf U15 Tournament in Orlando in August with an opportunity to be promoted to the FIFA List as an International Assistant Referee for 2018/2019.
